BRUSSELS, 26/05/2020 - Meanwhile, our solar installation is running at full capacity and Gare Maritime is the "green lung" of Brussels. With EnergyVision/Brusol we supply all green electricity on the site. On Tuesday 26 May, the installation generated exactly 1 million kWh. So already 1 of the 3 million kWh expected each year - and summer has yet to begin! The inauguration of this milestone took place on Tuesday, 26 May, taking into account all safety measures related to social distancing. A news crew from RTBF also dropped by.
The largest solar plant in Brussels
The Gare Maritime site is an architectural gem and the largest Belgian solar roof since 2013! In the past year, the old goods station Gare Maritime on the Thurn & Taxis site has been undergoing renovation. 350 workers worked every day on what was to become a covered city, with retail spaces, promenades and restaurants. Between October and December, more than 30 people from EnergyVision also worked six days a week on the roof: we installed almost 10,000 solar panels, according to the Brusol formula.

The installation remains the property of EnergyVision, the power is purchased and consumed locally. Together with the other solar panels on the site, this installation forms the largest solar factory in the Brussels Capital Region.
The 3.4 MWp installation is also the largest third-party financed solar roof in all of Belgium since 2013. The installation produces more than 3 million kWh per year, the equivalent of the entire annual consumption of over 900 families. The green electricity will be used entirely on the site, covering 75% of local needs.
The total figures of EnergyVision/Brusol.
- Households in Brussels: 1,300 installations already installed, 2,000 families who have signed up to the Brusol formula. Good for a total of 10 MW, which together produce 9 million kWh of green electricity per year.
- More than 100 industrial installations in Brussels, at schools, government buildings and SMEs.
In total, EnergyVision will have installed 251,600 solar panels this year - despite Corona's difficulties - good for an annual production of 96.2 million kWh and a reduction in CO2 emissions of over 73,112 tonnes per year.
