BRUSSELS, 22/09/2019 - On a sun-drenched car-free Sunday, Brussels Finance Minister Sven Gatz festively inaugurated "the greenest neighbourhood in Brussels". In just a few months' time, almost 200 families from Anderlecht signed up for the Brusol formula of free solar panels. A large proportion of them live in the new neighbourhood built by Matexi next to Prozastraat. The inauguration also took place there. "What a wonderful day for our Region," said Gatz. Over 400 Brusol customers attended the inauguration.
Brusol has been running its free PV installation initiative in the Brussels region for exactly one year, and the results speak for themselves. One thousand families have already signed up and will have free green energy for 25 years or more from 2019. One thousand families, that means over 14,000 solar panels, over 4 million kWh per year of free green electricity, almost 3,200 tonnes of CO2 emissions saved per year, and almost a million euro discount on the energy bill for Brusol customers in total.
Brusol customers come from all over Brussels and even the world. Among the customers there are 22 nationalities from 3 continents. For Brusol, the following applies more than ever: Brussels is the world in miniature. But the largest concentration of Brusol customers is in Anderlecht, as Mayor Eric Tomas also proudly pointed out on Sunday. "As town council we are making a lot of efforts to green our neighbourhoods, and it is gratifying to see that our residents are also jumping on board so enthusiastically. That makes me very proud as Mayor." Together with his aldermen present, the Mayor observed how Prozastraat was temporarily renamed Brusol Street.
Minister Sven Gatz: "It is not easy for the Brussels Region to meet the environmental targets. Year after year, we saw how difficult it was to get the solar panel market going in Brussels. It is sublime to see how it is finally succeeding, and above all: that it is not the rich, but underprivileged families who benefit most from it." After these words and the solemn inauguration, it was time for the Brusol customers who had turned up en masse to eat, drink, celebrate and enjoy. And that at a party that lasted until the sun disappeared.
